Small forward, ‘flyin’ Liam Ryan is best known for his aerial acrobatics and electric speed.
Originally from Western Australia, Ryan came onto the scene in 2016 after kicking 40 goals in 16 games in his first season with Subiaco in the WAFL.
After missing out on a draft call-up that season, Ryan upped his game to score 73 goals in the following season and was subsequently drafted to the West Coast as a round-three pick.
And the Eagles wasted no time bringing him into the side, making his debut in the first game of the 2018 season against Sydney. Despite injuries and some personal issues, Ryan went on to have a breakthrough rookie year, helping the Eagles to win the 2018 grand final, becoming a premiership player himself in the process.
Also known as the ‘Excitement Machine,’ Ryan has always dazzled fans with his ability to climb over packs of defenders to take unreachable marks. In 2019 he won the AFL’s Mark of the Year award and took his game to the next level, taking 72 marks while kicking 30 goals in 24 games.
Ryan continued his run of form into the 2020 season, and secured himself a spot in the 2020 All-Australian team, and was rewarded with a two-year contract extension at the end of the year.
