Originally hailing from Western Australia, Tim Kelly was drafted to Geelong as a second-round selection during the 2017 national draft. He made his AFL debut in the opening round of the 2018 season against Melbourne and went on to have an outstanding season for the Cats, scoring 24 goals during the season while being voted the AFL’s Best First-Year Player.
After another outstanding season in 2019, Kelly earned himself an All-Australian team selection and a top-five finish in the year’s Brownlow Medal race.
But after seeking a move to the West Coast in 2018, Kelly again requested a trade to WA and was eventually traded in October 2019 for picks 14, 24, and 37.
Kelly signed a five-year deal worth $5 million and made his debut for the Eagles in round one of the 2020 season against Melbourne. Kelly notably spurred the Eagles to a massive win against St Kilda in round 17 that secured the Eagles a place in the 2020 finals series.
